Blood Service facilities in Brazil are nationally known as “Hemocentro”. The word is formed by the Greek prefix “hemo “ in allusion to blood and the base word “centro” as a reference of center. Generally, blood centers are meant to contact, recruit and receive blood donors for the very primordial assistance principle of public heath for recipients in need for a broad range of services.
The Regional Blood Center of Ribeirão Preto holds the Hemotherapy Center of HCFMRP-USP (General Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo) a unique institution in Brazil for the complex web of services that undergo within its walls, covering over 200 municipalities and assisting almost 5 million people in this area.
The institution stand in the heart of the state of São Paulo, the most developed one of the Federative Republic of Brazil. Nevertheless, students, researchers and partners from all over the Country come to our center for its prominent vocation for scientific investigation and educational programs.
Our philosophy, values, and mission drive us through Blood Service, Research and Education under strict quality control standards. The everlasting strive for public heath utility is nationally and internationally acknowledged and is the motivation to continue our efforts to enroot the culture of giving through blood donation to knowledge development and sharing.
