Araçatuba is a Brazilian city of São Paulo. It is located at latitude 21°12'32" South and longitude 50°25'58" West, with an altitude of 390 m. The estimated population in 2009 was 182,204 inhabitants.
Araçatuba birth dates from coffee expansion and transition to the present century its economy was characterized by the growth of sugarcane. This also includes livestock, an activity that made the country known as the Cattle Capital due to the negotiations of the Ox Arroba held at Praça Rui Barbosa, with the inclusion of livestock animals such as sheep industry. Diversified economy, the service sector is predominant in the city. Araçatuba is also characterized by being a pole and gastronomic university in the northwestern region of São Paulo. It is served by the Brazil-Bolivia gas pipeline and the Tietê-Paraná.
Near the river Tiete River that is considered clean in the region, is the first city not living in the state of Sao Paulo to capture water directly from this river is still under the Guarani Aquifer, the largest fresh water reserve in the world and is cut by the Ribeirão baguaçu that supplies the municipality. In Araçatuba, almost 100% of sewage is treated before being released into waterways.
