Located in Club Road (the first asphalt laid road of Jorhat)
It was established in 1876 by D. Slimmon, the then secretary of the club. Jorhat
Gymkhana Club, with its tennis, billiards, bridge, race weeks, flower shows, seasonal balls and ubiquitous bar gossip, is a must see place when in Assam.
It has a 9-hole golf course and is a Heritage place vying for the one of the oldest golf courses in Asia.
( As per the IGNCA certificate & records the golf course is the third oldest in the world only after St. Andrews of Scotland & RCGC Kolkata, built in 1889-90 by J Hautman & Dr Simmons. Originaly 205 bigha6lechas noe 180 bighas ) Arijit Choudhury.
Has a horse racing circuit, where the Governor's cup is hosted annually in the first week of February. Dedicated four lush green lawn grass courts and a club house.

  • It is a unique story cum fact. I never expected that there could have been race course and golf round around Jorhat, of course, not under mining the fact that Jorhat is surrounded by Tea Gardens which was the main cause of several traders, Britishers in 19th,20th Century and later settled Indian business class. It is different issue that at present , the place is not so colourful. However, a race course even in a small way now will be of interset where inter center betting may be enabled.
