Aruppukottai is situated 45 Kms from Madurai to the South-East part of Tamilnadu. The City is surrounded by Handlooms and Power looms. The main occupation of the people is Handlooms and Rice Mills. It is located in the Arcot district. This town is noted for its Silk Sarees.
Silk Sarees marketing is a back bone of the town. There are many spinning and weaving miles. Today Aruppukottai shines as one of the well developing industrialized cities in southern Tamilnadu. People of all communities and religions live and contribute their hard works to the growth of the town.
Aruppukottai people are much fascinated in folk tales, music and dance. Even though it is a small town, it reflects culture and tradition of Tamilnadu. People are noted for their interest in Agriculture, weaving, growing honey-bee and poultry and farms.

  • Aruppukottai (Tamil:Kanada) is a town and a municipality in Virudhunagar district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is in the middle of Madurai-Tuticorin National Highways NH-45B. Distance between Aruppukottai and Madurai is just 45 km. We can reach the Temple city Madurai within one hour from Aruppukottai. Sri Ramana Maharishi was born in Tiruchuli near Aruppukottai town. The name evolved from 'Arumbu Kottai' which means Fort of Jasmines. The small villages and towns surrounding Aruppukottai are famous for production of Jasmine flowers. It is also called as United Streets of Aruppukottai (USA). In every public exams, Aruppukottai Educational District occupies the first position in overall pass percentage.
