The Annunciation Cathedral with 80 meter tall bell tower was under construction during 12 years since October 2, 1888 near the old church, which was destroyed later.
Architect – Mikhail Lovtsov, who built several churches in Kharkiv.
The Cathedral was consecrated in 1901.

Since 1946 the Cathedral has been the seat of the Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), while the Pokrovskyi (Intercession) Convent has served as the bishop's residence.
