office building, Art Nouveau / Jugendstil (architecture), 1901_construction, object of cultural heritage of federal importance (Russia)
Designed by Fyodor Shekhtel in 1901 for the Moscow Insurance Society, it was better known as "Boyars' Court" after the hotel on the site. The gray-green glazed brick building represents a transition from Russian Revival with its ornamental details, dark gray metal balconies, entrance way arches and Old Russian motifs to more modern buildings of brick and reinforced concrete. Notice that the windows, the shape, size and frames, of each floor are different.
