 invisible, historic district

This small district of old Kharkiv got the name Kontorska or 'Clerical' (another name of the Behind-Lopan area) due to the street name and presence there of Alcohol Beverages Tax Office, that distributed drinks and collected fees from all restaurants and taverns of the metropolitan area.

Kontorska Street is one of the oldest in Kharkiv, where all primary built houses made of red bricks still stands. Houses in this area were built since 1790 till the house No. 25, and later after 1830 till about 1870 further to the west alongside the river Kharkiv.
