From 1970 to 2012, this was Six Flags Mall, a regional shopping mall anchored by Sanger-Harris (later Foley's), Sears, and J.C. Penney (with Dillard's joining later) named after the nearby amusement park. After skating by with largely local tenants for years, the mall closed except for Dillard's Clearance Center (which pulled out soon after) and the movie theater (which expanded into the mall's food court). In summer 2014, local management attempted to reopen the mall as Plaza Central, a Hispanic-themed mall, but lack of investment caused it to flop. After the mall closed permanently in February 2016, it was demolished in 2017, with construction of the Arlington Logistics Center (auxiliary GM supplier warehouses) beginning within months.

  • Back in 2012 I went here just to check it out. Most of the mall was still walkable, though literally everything was closed except for the theater, Dillards, two or three shops, and Italia Express. Walking through it was quite interesting; most of the closed stores still had "ghost signs", and there was absolutely nobody around. The mall has high arched windows throughout it, which actually looks kinda nice and architecturally interesting. It's a shame that I didn't bring a camera, and a shame that the mall is closed down now.
