L'Abbaye de Ste Marie Rieunette, founded in 1162 by Nuns, aggregated very quickly to the Cistercian Order and placed under the protection of the abbots of Villelongue.
Abbey Rieunette is in the Diocese of Carcassonne, and one of the first Cistercian abbey's of nuns in France.
Founded in the twelfth century, it was returned to the monastic life in 1998 after centuries of interruption.
Since its re-opening in 1998, The community of Cistercians at Boulaur send 7 Sisters for this re-foundation, is living there again resounding Gregorian chant in the ancient church.They gradually cleared the edge of the Monastery to grow produce that are necessary, and are open all year, visitors who wish to discover the heritage Cistercian life, and Christians wanting to spiritual retreat and participate in the offices of the monastic day are welcome.
