Villefranche de Rouergue, a medieval bastide constructed in 1252 by Alphonse of Poitiers, is located in the triangular center formed by Cahors, Albi and Rodez. A "new city" of the Middle Ages, Villefranche has kept its original city plan, organized around main commercial streets composed of stone houses radiating from the Place Notre-Dame dominated by the bell tower of the Collegiale.
