Abbey of Bon Repos

The name, when translated means 'Good Rest' and the legend says that after a tiring day hunting in the Quénécan Forest back in 1184, the founder of the abbey, Viscount Alain III de Rohan fell asleep in this spot. It is said thatit was here that "the Virgin Mary appeared in his sleep and asked him to found an abbey" in that place.
The Abbey survived up the French Revolution of the 18th Century
It's most recent low point was in 1960 when it was a complete ruin, however, the local community were determined to save it and in 1986, their tenacity led to the founding of the Association des Compagnons de l'Abbaye de Bon-Repos - the association of Friends to the Abbey of Bon Repos.

Today Bon Repos Abbey accommodates several thousands of visitors to discover the restored buildings.
