The home and office of the President of the United States of America. John Adams (the second President) moved into the building in 1800 after construction finished in 1792. It was mostly destroyed in 1814 due to fire (even the exterior walls had to be partially reconstructed) but rebuilt from 1814-1817. From 1949 to 1952 the interior of the building was completely rebuilt and modernized due to the building in poor shape and in danger of collapse. It has had a few minor renovations since.
