This brick building was the old Auckland fire station. Now converted into several businesses and apartments it features an amazing courtyard with box hedges, olive trees and Virginia creeper clad walls.
This building was built in two phases, both designed by the architectural firm of Goldsboro and Wade; the Pitt street building is from 1902, the portion facing onto Beresford square is from 1912. The 1912 facade still retains the polychrome brickwork that matched that on the earlier building The Pitt street building was modernised in 1926 when it's facade was covered by cement stucco and much of its detailing was removed.
