About Us
Karuna Institute of Medical Sciences is a self-financing Institution under Safe Development Alms Trust (Regd). The Safe Development Alms Trust was registered under Public Trust Act XIV/1920 in the Year 1993 with at its Head Quarters at Melamuri, Palakkad with the object of providing General Health Care Service to the Public and to plan and execute activities designed to promote Medical and Para Medical Education. Karuna Medical College Hospital to admit 100 students every year. The Medical College will have the fullest Complement of staff including Dean/Principal as per the Regulation of the Medical Council of India.
The Govt. of Kerala accorded essentially certificate to the SDA Trust for setting up Karuna Medical College and Nursing College. The university of Calicut issued separate consent of affiliation to Karuna Medical College and Karuna Dental College.
Sri K. Sankaranarayanan Finance Minister of Kerala has laid down the foundation stone of Karuna Medical College. Jb. Nalakath Soopy Minister of education Kerala has laid down the foundation stone of Karuna Dental College in colourful ceremony presided over by Sri. N.N. Krishna Das Member of Parliament Palakkad on 28th march 2002 at Vilayodi Chittur Palakkad for the establishment of Karuna Institute of Medical Science.
Karuna Medical College have completed all the infrastructural requirments of Preclinical, Paraclinical Departments and maintained a 300 beded Super Speciality Hospital.


People Behind
A team of socially committed personalities in and out of the country clubbed together and registered The Safe Development Alms Trust. The Trust is an autonomous non governmental organization, and Medical Education is one of the main objectives of the Trust. The socio-economic development of the society was aimed through healthcare and medical education. The Trust established Karuna Hospital Melamuri, Palakkad with a humble beginning during the Year of 1994 and this Hospital is the parent institution of the present Karuna Medical College. The devoted leadership of the Trust managed the Karuna Hospital with all clinical and diagnostic departments.
Health is a human right for the well – being of himself and his family and is essential for socio – economic development. Still out of the HUNDRED BEST JOBS in the World Health Care is still the NUMBER ONE. The Vision of the SDA Trust under the eminent Chairmanship of P.V. HASSAN and General Secretary P.P.UNNEENKUTTY MOULAVI created the thought of establishing Karuna Institute of Medical Science compraising Medical College, Hospital, Dental College, Nursing College and Para Medical College in a vast area 70 acres of land owned and possessed by the Trust at Vilayodi, Chittur, Palakkad.
