university, dormitory
Stanford Hall is a four-story male dormitory for students at Notre Dame. Stanford was named Hall of the Year in 2006, and won the Interhall Athletics Cup in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006.
Great views from the building include a parking lot and smoke stacks. Its advanced heating (but NOT cooling) system maintains a cozy 98.6 degree Fahrenheit environment year-round. Recent improvements to the dorm include painted hall ceilings ('02) and sandpaper walls ('03). Furniture is in the process of being updated. Lucky residents get the original steel furniture handcrafted by the less-talented fine arts majors in Keenan Hall that worked with steel as a medium. The hall elevator is an original HK3000 designed by Helen Keller in the early 1930's. Because she was deaf and blind, Keller designed the elevator to appeal to the sense of smell. Residents know they are in the elevator when they smell diabetic cat urine. Radiator pipes are insulated with a secret blend of asbestos and tobacco. Normally considered cancer causing, when used in tandem these materials neutralize the other's carcinogenic tendencies, and actually do a pretty good job of keeping the building at a reasonable temperature. The heating system is powered by Australian guinea pigs that run through the pipes with tiny hammers. Being nocturnal in nature sometimes they are heard playing Chuck the Hammer in the pipes late at night. The air-conditioning system is a frequent topic of fictional upgrades. Windows in Stanford Hall are designed to appear as though they can be opened and closed, but in reality they can do neither. If you are fortunate enough to lodge here in the summer, BRING TWO FANS.
