Former City Estate of the Dolgoruky's - architectural monument (Moscow)

Russia / Moscow / Moscow
estate (manor / mansion land), listed building / architectural heritage

late 18th early 19th century

The foundation of the central part of the main house of the estate is made from an earlier building of smaller size built in 1756 on the courtyard of I.I. Vorontsov-Velyaminov estate in characteristic forms of the mid 18th century.

In 1770s this estate already was in the possession of the Dolgoruky family and had been expanded to Povarskaya street. On its boundaries and on lateral borders were two low symmetric L-shaped office buildings with extensive circular rooms in the corners.

At the turn of the 18th-19th century the estate of the Dolgoroukys included separate later sections on the left and right, used as a household yard and garden, since the central courtyard became a parade ground. At the same time the house annex facade was significantly expanded and a mezzanine was added with strictly classical style including Corinthian porticoes on both fronts.

In 1859 when M.K.Bode-Kolychev owned the manor, to the east end of the house there was a the house church in «pseudo-Russian style». At the same time, the pseudo-baroque decor was added.

In the center of the estate courtyard in 1958 was placed a sculpture of L.N.Tolstoy, the work of sculptor G.I. Novokreshchenov. Now the manor is occupied by the Board of the Union of Writers.
