The Joe F. Gurney Unit is a men's transfer facility operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Inmates that are new to the prison system arrive here to await transfer to a permanent prison to serve their sentence. Inmates with less than two years on their sentence may serve their entire sentence here. This facility was opened in 1995 and named after Sergeant Joe F. Gurney, a field force officer killed when his horse crushed him.

The George Beto Unit is a men's state prison operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Correctional Institutions Division. This prison houses inmates from Trusty status to medium status. This prison was opened in the 1980s and named after former Agency Director Dr. George Beto.
