Opium fields of Raliang and Gaen

India / Arunachal Pradesh / Tezu /

From Teepani at about 20 kms from Hayuliyang after about a 2 hours walk, across the Dulai river's new suspension foot bridge, for city slicks is the village of Raliang. A prolific cultivator of opium poppy. And so is its neighbour Gaen. These photographs show the rather impressive fields of opium poppies in Raliang. And also the lancing and the collecting. The white resin is fresh opium, which will become blackish within a few hours. Opium prosperity is visible everywhere in this village. Solar panels, expensive watches and stereo sound systems.
