Central United Church (Windsor, Ontario)

Canada / Ontario / Windsor / Windsor, Ontario / Ouellette Avenue, 628

Originally known as Central Methodist Church it opened in 1906 on the then outskirts of the Town of Windsor. After the formation of the United Church of Canada in 1925 the church became known as Central United Church.

Architectually the church follows the Akron Plan with imposing double doors and a domed roof. It is a classic Victorian Methodist preaching place with the pulpit being the focal point embraced by half circles of pews rising in tiers. The great glass dome brings light into the church as well as enhancing the music by amplifying and distributing sound.
