Burnt-down Radogoszcz prison was considered by the citizens of Łódź a Place of National Remembrance already in 1945. Since 1961, the charred ruins of the factory together with the symbolic sarcophagus and 30-meter-high spire have constituted a memorial unit. Nowadays, it is a "Martyrologium", where the complex of national remembrance, connected mainly with the crimes committed here by the Nazis, is located. Each year, municipal celebrations, attended by many citizens, are organized to commemorate the anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War and the end of Nazi occupation of Łódź, gathering. What is more, there are commemorative plaques affixed in various places in the mausoleum, made on the initiative of veteran's and social organization and private people.
