Auschwitz inmates considered physically fit for factory labor (only about 30% ---the rest were gassed right away) would be sent here or to the Nazi regime's many "Lager" sites near here to be housed. They would work as slaves in the synthetic rubber and oil chemical works next door to the east until too weak to continue --then sent (as old IG Farben company's Buna Werke records say) "nach Birkenau" (back to Auschwitz II Birkenau to be gassed). Most buildings wrecked in post-war reuse of the land. Some remnants and property-line vegitation is still present in 2010.
