Second World War 1939-1945, Holocaust, production, interesting place, chemical industry
During the Second World War, Nazi German occupiers operated this site as the infamous I.G. Farben Buna Werke where deportees from Auschwitz and the neighboring satellite camps were worked to the point of eventual physical exhaustion. Worn-out workers were then murdered in the Auschwitz gas chamber.
After the War, the factory complex was taken over on September 1, 1945 under the name of Fabryka Paliw Synetycznych in Dwory. The name was changed to Państwowe Zakłady Syntezy Chemicznej in Dwory in 1946.
In 1948 it received the name: Zakłady Syntezy Chemicznej in Dwory. A year later it was changed to Zakłady Chemiczne.
In June of 1951 it was named Zakłady Chemiczne "Oświęcim" in Oświęcim.
In December, 1994 as a state-owned enterprise, under the legal act as of April 3,1993 of the National Investment Funds and the privatization of them (Dz.U. nr 44.poz.202) it was transformed into a state Treasury owned Company. On September 12, 1995, 60 % of the Enterprise's shares were contributed to the National Investment Funds. On April 28, 1997 the General Assembly of Shareholders decided on the present name of: Chemical Company Dwory S.A . The new name has been in effect since June 13, 1997.
