truss bridge, bridge, 1997_construction
This bridge carries County Route 82 (Fayette Station Road) over the New River. Route 82 is one-way (southbound) across the bridge. It is a three span, steel through truss bridge with a timber deck. The original bridge here was constructed in 1889. In 1977, with the completion of the far superior New River Gorge Bridge, the old bridge was closed to traffic. The bridge was substantially rebuilt and reopened to one-way and pedestrian traffic in 1997.
The bridge is named for Tunney Morgan Hunsaker, a professional boxer and former police chief of nearby Fayetteville.
