St John Nepomuk statue

Sadly hidden from the eye of the world. The statue is a large monument dedicated to St. John Nepomuk, which was located in 1734 in Piata Mare/Large Square.
It was moved from the square in 1948, pulled down from the pedestal with ropes and heavy machinery by the communist authorities, and deposited in Brukenthal Palace courtyard, being resettled in 1988 in the courtyard of the Roman Catholic parish building in Piata Mare/Large Square, where it remains today.

  • Statue of John of Nepomuk in Sibiu is a stone monument dedicated to St. John Nepomuk, which was located in 1734 in the Market Square of Sibiu. It was dismantled in 1948 and stored in the Museum courtyard Brukenthal being resettled in 1988 in the courtyard of the Roman Catholic parish house.
