The citadel was built by the Spaniards of Don Juan del Aguila to whom the Members of a league had delivered Loc-Péran in 1590. It was realized by Cristobal de Rojas, engineer. After the departure of the Spaniards in 1598, both bastions of the forehead of ground were preserved in the citadel enlarged by Jacques Corbineau, architect, from 1617 till 1623 and Nicolas Gilles, architect and manufacturerr, in 1641 and 1642. Of rectangular, granite shape and tufa, it is bastionnée in angles and on sides.
