USA / Virginia / Richmond / Richmond, Virginia
NRHP - National Register of Historic Places, historical layer / disappeared object, equestrian statue

This was the first monument to be built on Monument Avenue. It is over 30 feet tall and depicts Confederate General Robert E. Lee on a horse that is often erroneously thought to be Traveller (Lee's favorite war horse), as shown in a painting by Adalbert Volck. The monument was erected in 1890 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The statue was removed after 133 years on September 8, 2021. It was the last remaining Confederate statue on Monument Avenue, and was the largest.
