place with historical importance, interesting place
The Mayberry Hotel was built by Col. E.L. Mayberry. Hotel Mayberry opened on Thanksgiving week. The Mayberry Hotel would later be sold to W.F. Whittier and become the Hotel Hemet.
After a fire in 1917 and the damage of the earthquake of 1918 the hotel was torn down. The land was used as a park until 1926 when the son of E.L. Mayberry built the Hotel Alessandro. In 1953 the Hotel Alessandro was torn down and a Security Pacific Bank Building was built in its place. It has changed hands several times, but is now home to Hungry Heart II. Some of the original palm trees that lined the circular drive of the Mayberry Hotel still remain.
