Three 3" masking pedestal mount guns were mounted here from 1904 to 1920.

Battery Mellon was named on December 27, 1904 in honor of Captain Charles Mellon, 2nd U.S. Artillery, who was killed in action with Seminole Indians at the head of Lake Monroe, Florida February 8, 1837.
