Middle Tampa Bay is one of four open-water segments which together comprise the Tampa Bay estuary on Florida's gulf coast.

Middle Tampa Bay borders the shorelines of the Pinellas County peninsula to the west, Hillsborough County to the east, the tip of the South Tampa peninisula and MacDill Air Force Base to the north, and a small shoreline in Manatee County at the bay's southern tip at Piney Point.

From these land areas, numerous streams and tributaries feed into Middle Tampa Bay, the largest being the Little Manatee River in Hillsborough County. The most significant sources in Middle Tampa Bay's watershed, however, are the two other bays, Old Tampa Bay and Hillsborough Bay, which empty into Middle Tampa Bay from the north.

The waters of Middle Tampa Bay ultimately empty into Lower Tampa Bay, the last of the four bays which comprise Tampa Bay.
