Sunbury operates as intermediate and peak generation, since its design and relatively small size allows it to be ramped up and down according to electrical needs more easily than multigigawatt coal and nuclear units. Two #2 fuel oil burning combustion turbines are located on-site which can produce an extra 42 megawatts during high demand. There are also two Diesel generators that allow the power plant to cold start without using power from the grid.

Corona Power LLC operates in the power generation sector. The company was incorporated in 2005 and is based in Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania.
