Cape Schmidt, an urban type, the center Shmidtovskogo region of Chukotka National District Magadan Region of Russia. Located on the shores of the Chukchi Sea. Ionospheric stations. Radiometeorologichesky center. The population of the village of 509 people (2008).
Historically associated with the founding GM polar station, and later radio. Further expansion is required to build and develop ports, airfields, military installations. The main populations are geologists, miners, aviators, soldiers and their families.
It was a good school, a hospital. Hydromet observatory (one of the best in the Arctic).
The aircraft flew almost every day in Magadan, Pevek, district towns.
In the 60 years was granted the status of the district center in connection with the discovery and development of the largest gold deposits, the construction of Polyrnui and Leningradskii.
