Founded around 1900, in December 2008 this locally notorious juvenile detention facility became the subject of an official investigation into allegations of abuse, torture, rape, and murder of juvenile offenders held there in the 1950s and 1960's. Noteworthy is the so-called "white house" where many of the more severe abuses took place; this building remained in use until October of 2008. Also on the property is a cemetery where dozens of unmarked graves hold remains of boys who died while at the school, some of whom are alleged to have been murdered. In 2011, the prison finally closed due to budget cuts.
