Bohemian Grove is a 2700 acre (11 km²) campground located in Monte Rio, California, in Sonoma County, 75 miles north of San Francisco, belonging to a private San Francisco-based men's fine arts club known as the Bohemian Club, which was founded in 1872. Every year (since 1899) it is the location of a two-week (covering three weekends) encampment, beginning in the middle of July.

The first Friday of the week's event, hosts a ceremony known as "The Cremation of Care" - where all the attendees attend a lakeside theater to witness a ritualistic drama where they are instructed to place their cares into an effigy which is then burned before a 40+ foot owl idol/statue, with the intent to disconnect those present from empathy for their fellow humans. www.wikiwand.com/en/Cremation_of_Care

  • The Grove regularly hires older students from Analy High School in Sebastapol to serve as staff. A: The kids either do not recognize or are not impressed by the powerful men ( and it is men only) there B: The students do not want to foul thing up for the next generation of workers. The local Sonoma County Airport is swamped by corporate jets for the two week party.
  • These people paid a private visit to the local Sturgeon steam-powered sawmill, a working museum. They enjoyed their visit and pledged generously to keep the good works going.
