The castle was built by the king´s building works for Holy Roman Emperor and Czech King Wenceslaus IV. It constitutes the example of connecting element between the castle as a military significance fortress and the representing and residential purpose manor. Some Rennaissance adjustments were made in the following centuries, but the fundamental late Gothic character of the castle was retained.
