Domažlice [ˈdɔmaʒlɪtsɛ] (deutsch Taus) is old royal city in West Bohemia, a traditional centre of Chodsko, a region of former Czech royal board guardians called Chodove, Chods (Chodove, transliterated Walkers. The name had origin from Czech verb "chodit" = to walk {along the border}). Chodove vas native from Poland and they was free farmers with special legal and financial advantages given by Royal acts of grace due to their border-guard services. These advantages they lost after the suppress of the Czech Lords Insurrection by Austrian Habsburgs in 1618–1620.
The German city name Taus was originated from the name of older city predecessor, a Slavic stronghold Tuhost, located some 3 km south-eastern. Some 11 000 citizen lives in the city. Rich city history, Old Chods´ gothic castle, old long place rimmed by gothic, barroque and rannaisance houses with arcades, barroque St. Mary church, old round gothic hanging watchtower with large bell "Barta" (Bartholomew) and blowing bellman in the night hours, makes this city very colourul for visitors.
