The original grandstands were designed by the architect I.A.Frantsuz and they were first opened at the same time as Lenin's mausoleum in October 1930. In 1946—47 and in 1973-74 there were reconstructions of a necropolis and the viewing stands. In last reconstruction changes were made from steel to granite slabs over concrete. The maximum capacity of both sides of the grandstands is a maximum of 10 thousand persons.
