Panmana Asramam has been acknowledged to be a unique and sacred centre of learning and service which has had the divine presence of SREE VIDYADHIRAJA PARAMA BHATTARAKA CHATTAMBI SWAMIKAL and SREE MAHA THRIPURASUNDARI DEVI. Panmana Asramam located 18 Kms. North of Kollam city nearby the National Highway 47, is the MAHASAMADHI PEEDOM of Sree Chattampy Swamikal. The Asramam in its present form was founded by the late Sri Kumbalathu Sanku Pillai, an ardent devotee of Swamikal. He was a great freedom fighter , political luminary as well as a powerful social reformer of Kerala State. Under its aegis Sree Balabhattarakeswarasram Trust was constituted in December 1938.
Panmana Asramam is situated in a placid and peaceful atmosphere in the midst of lush coconut palms and paddy fields. Because of its simple and serene surroundings, the Asramam had been a pilgrim centre - a veritable rural paradise for the past 75 years attracting thousands of people. from all over the world. Several great men had visited this place and enjoyed the quiet and enlightening atmosphere. Even Mahatma Gandhi had visited the Asramam and stayed for two days spending the time in prayers and contemplation. The spiritually vibrant and tranquil atmosphere of the Asramam had deep impact on him. A perfect tranquillity prevails in the whole area - an atmosphere charged with the divine presence of Paramabhattara Sree Vidyadhiraja Chattambi Swamigal, believed to be an incarnation lord Siva, the Yogi of Yogis .
At present in the Asramam Brahmacharins and Sannyasins are living and undergoing indo-logical studies and research in fields of Vedas,Puranas,Ayurveda and Sanskrit language and literature.
