There are 11 gates into Kruger, allowing visitors some flexibility in their itineraries. You should plan to arrive at the gates with enough time to reach your overnight camp, as arriving after the camp gates close will incur a stiff penalty.

The "Paul Kruger Gate" is one of three gates that provides entrance to the western region of the southern area of the Kruger National Park (see also the Numbi Gate and the Phabeni Gate) and leads straight to Skukuza camp inside the Kruger Park. Kruger Gate is 460km from Johannesburg. The quickest route is the N4 toll road east from Gauteng through Witbank, Belfast, Nelspruit, White River and Hazyview, and then turning on to the R536.

The proximity of this gate to the Sabie River makes this and ideal choice for day visitors. Good sightings are possible as soon as you enter the gate and it is a short drive to the spectacular H4-1 (Skukuza-Lower Sabie road), which follows the course of the Sabie River eastwards. Unfortunately this route can become very busy and you'll have plenty of company at any sightings.
