Hill 400

USA / Alaska / Unalaska /
hill, battlefield, place with historical importance, fortification, bunker

So named because the summit is about 400 feet above sea level. Also known as Bunker Hill.

Site of an important anti-aircraft and coast defense artillery installation during World War II. Now part of National Historic Landmark No. 85002733.

What remains of the fortification are some bunkers, anti-aircraft gun emplacements, and a few rusted out quonset huts.

The rings faintly visible in this image are for the "Panama mounts" (360 degrees of traverse) of 155mm field guns.

Yellow outline traces the 300 foot elevation contour.
