In the winter of 1971-72 two plow drivers and their truck were pushed off of the road by an avalanche just north of here and killed. The bodies were recovered quickly but it was several months later before enough snow had melted to allow the plow to be removed. The small white rectangle in the middle of the marked area is a giant granite block the size of a van carved to resemble a snow plow. It is dedicated to the two men and the many others who have died keeping the roads open.
