Fort Wallace (1865-1882) - A U.S. Army post established as Camp Pond Creek in 1865 in Wallace County, Kansas. Named 18 Apr 1866 for Brigadier General William H.L. Wallace, who was mortally wounded 10 Apr 1862 at the battle of Shiloh, Tennessee, during the U.S. Civil War. Abandoned in 1882.
This was once a major army post. Little remains, and places for exploring are limited due to private ownership. There is a museum in the town.
