Officially opened in January 2010, Ecopower delivers electricity to WEB (Water and Electricity company Bonaire) which then distributes the power throughout the island. Presently fueled by heavy fuel oil, the plant is forecast to switch to algae-produced biodiesel which is naturally occurring in the salt pans located in the islands South.

Working in conjuction with wind turbines built on Bonaire's windward coast, the Ecopower Plant will be the second leg of a sustainable energy system which will meet all of the island's energy demands.

  • The powerplant has officially been opened in January 2010. Ecopower delivers the power to WEB (Water and Electricity company Bonaire), which services the enduser. In time, the biodiesel will be produced by using an algue, which lives in the salt pans from the Solar Salt Company.
