cathedral, Gothic (architecture), Grade II* Listed (UK), anglican church, 14th century construction
The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas is the Mother Church of the most northerly diocese in England. Dating mainly from the 13th and 14th centuries, it is a magnificent building. Its most distinguishing feature is the Lantern Tower (1448), a prominent landmark for over five hundred years. Despite all the developments in modern building, the tower remains the most daring architectural structure in Newcastle.
