First operational in September 1951, it was a USAF site shared with the Army for Nike missile-defense system (Fairbanks Defense Area). The CPS-6B radar was removed July 1958, and the FPS-8 radar removed in 1960. The AN/FPS-117 radar was installed in the summer of 1992. Now considered a Long Range Radar Site (LRRS), all of the original buildings with the exception of the FPS-117 have been removed.
