"The Wide Valley" in southern Gilf Kebir, used to be the shortest way to cross east - west; Not any more!!!! As the western narrow entry section is full of mines laid by the Egyptian Army, do not enter or try to cross the western section (in 1999 one group ran into it and one car exploded).
