This mine is owned and operated by M-I Drilling Fluids and they mine and crush Barite into a fine form for use as a weighting agent in drilling mud. Other uses of Barite include being used as a nontoxic filler in certain plastics and foams and being a component in Barium which is used intestinal x-rays.
