This freshwater slough originally extended northward through the present location of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. The slough, composed of clastic and shell deposits, was dredged in the 1940s. Today, the remnants of the slough occur on the site of the Bonnet House. The slough's name was derived from the prolific water lilies that thrived in the vicinity.
