Hugh Taylor Birch State Recreation Area (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)

Park opened July 1, 1949. Donated to the city by Mr. Hugh Taylor Birch, who moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1893. His estate, Terramar, was retained and restored as a visitors center. The park has a fresh water lagoon despite being so close to the Atlantic Ocean. The site also contains a coastal maritime hammock. The beach is accessible via a subterranean tunnel under State Highway A1A. A youth campground is situated in the park.
