InterContinental New York Times Square (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / West 44th Street, 300

347-foot, 34-story modernist hotel completed in 2010. Designed by Gensler, it has a 6/7-story base of aluminum, glass, and granite, with the glass curtain wall of the tower rising above. The ground floor along 8th Avenue is lined by a long, glass-and-metal storefront; along the north facade on 44th Street it is faced in black granite with a steel band course along the top. There is a recessed subway entrance near the east end, below an arched glass-and-metal canopy, and the wide, recessed main entrance to the right, with the band course extending out to become a large, squared marquee topped by three flagpoles. The 6-story portion of the base continues on to the west, with more storefronts on black granite ground floor, and a garage entrance at the far west end.

The 6-story portion of the base (along 44th Street) is clad in tan granite panels with a random pattern of offset blue-glass windows. There is a gap in the base above the main entrance, recessing back to the main curtain wall of the tower. Along most of the east portion of the base (to the left of the entrance), there is a 7th floor, slightly further set back and clad in opaque white glass panels; the east facade of the base is clad in the same white panels, with a similar offset pattern of windows as the tan granite sections.

The tower is clad in blue glass, with several 1-bay-wide vertical strips of lighter-colored glass, slightly recessed from the rest of the facade, and running from varying floor levels. The ground floor is occupied by Shake Shack on 8th Avenue, and The Stinger bar on 44th Street. The hotel contains 607 guest rooms.
