The Nechranice dam with the area of 1.338 hectares has been the sixth largest dam in Czech Republic and also has the longest bulk embankment dam of the bulk reservoirs in the Central Europe (3280 meters length). It is located between the towns Kadan, Chomutov and Zatec. It was built on the Ohre River between the years 1961 - 1968 mainly as a source of technical water for the nearby power plant Tusimice. At present the reservoir has been used for recreation and water sports purposes. A part of the area has been declared as a bird protection area and it is a part of the Natura 2000 Network.
