It is located between the towns Kadan, Chomutov and Zatec. It was built on the Ohre River between the years 1961 - 1968 mainly as a source of technical water for the nearby power plant Tusimice. At present the reservoir has been used for recreation and water sports purposes. A part of the area has been declared as a bird protection area and it is a part of the Natura 2000 Network.
